¡COCINAS! ~ Mi Ranchito ~ My Little Ranch Original Painting

I painted this piece using metallic acrylic paint on an 11x14 canvas board. The frame is a distressed wood with hand painted embellishments. I wish my camera could capture the beautiful depth and colors in this piece, but metallic acrylic paints only really shine when they are hit by direct light.

Painting kitchen scenes featuring my Muertitos has been something I've been doing for two decades now. I find comfort in the tiny details of my little afterworld kitchen scenes. I remember details from my grandmother's kitchen and pull them into my paintings because the kitchen was the heart of her home. It seems that when life got too crazy, everything would just stop when I was in my grandmother's kitchen. feeling like a grown-up because she let me drink coffee with cream and tons of sugar. Special cold nights it would be atole and hard biscuits. Holidays were filled with family and laughter in my grandmother's kitchen. Even the hard times seemed to end up in her kitchen. The kitchen holds memories of love. Through it all.
