Mini Original ~ Girl With Skeleton Mask #1 ~ Make Little Girls Creepy Again

How can we protect our children from predators? I think of that often. We can watch them like hawks and yet the predators are always circling like sharks, always preying, always watching. And the predators are often the people we trust the most.

My mother missed the signs. I missed the signs. And all I can think is that somehow, someway, we must teach our children to find a way to fight back. To use any resource at hand.

The lessons of "obeying or respecting our elders" must be retaught to make our children think about what makes them uncomfortable. And if they are made to feel uncomfortable with an unwanted hug from an uncle. An awkward kiss from a family friend. A prying leer from the next-door neighbor. Anything that makes our children feel uncomfortable; we must tell them that it's okay to say NO and to talk about it.

And if that is not enough, then it is okay to fight back. No matter who it is. To hit. Scratch. Scream. Fight.

My tiny line of originals is titled: Make Little Girls Creepy Again. This piece is taken from one of my favorite photographs by Mexican photographer, Graciela Iturbide, titled Primera Comunión. She wears a sweet, white Communion dress while wearing a mask of death.

Painted on a 4x6 canvas panel in metallic acrylic paint. The frame is hand painted and embellished and made of wood. This is a tabletop piece and has a wide bottom to sit securely on any flat surface.
